Re: Getting rid of insects

I built some doors out of sime old american elm that had beetle holes in it. A few months after installation, I noticed small piles of sawdust at the base of one door. It reappeared after vacuuming, so I knew there was activity. I put some naphtha into a glue syringe and injected ut into every hole ...

Re: New to Shopsmith

Snafi,
I also started with a 500. Paid $200 for it without any attachments. It was an awesome gateway drug! Now I have a 510, a 510 converted to a shorty, and a 520, along with many attachments.

Re: Wobble on headstock with scroll chuck

Turning a bowl, is the blank irregulaely shaped? The shopsmith is light enough that a slight imbalance will shake the machine. If that's the problem, just keep the speed slow until the blank is round.

Re: InventWood - new industrial process makes wood stronger than steel

In a building application, load deflection is the most common measure of strength. I believe that douglas fir in its natural state has a considerable strength to weight advantage over steel for structural spans.

Re: New style adjustable T-fitting

Sorry for delayed reply; long hours at work. I guess I needed to display my ignorance by posting the question before realizing the answer. I had to cut off the clear plasti-dip and it fits fine.

New style adjustable T-fitting

I bought an adjustable T-fitting fr9m the Shopsmith website, and it's stamped steel rather than cast aluminum. I can't figure out how it is supposed to attach to the pipes. Has anyone used the new style?

Re: 5/8 Inch Keyless Drill Chuck

Rotozip has a circle cutting attachment, but it isn't exactly a precision tool. It works great for drywall or for cutting penetrations in cabinet backs for plumbing. If I need accuracy closer than 1/16", I will use a router.

Re: Toolbox

The handle does just extend through the sides, and I added a couple of trim head screws through the edge of the sides for added strength. I built the workbench about 4 years ago, and still intend to add a tail vise to it. All in good time...

Toolbox

Last week, while helping a friend on his remodeling project, I finally got fed up with stuffing tools into 5 gallon buckets and then realizing that I had forgotten 1 or 2 tools back at the shop. I have a really nice toolbox that I made for the jobsite, but until now, nothing for home. 20250322 ...
