I believe the serial number you gave as 112890 is actually a date code. As an actual serial number 112890 would have been made in January 1982 but would include the prefix SS before the numbers. That would be on a Belt Cover Vent Plate like the one below ...

Hello, I'm new here so bear with me. I'm looking at purchasing a used ShopSmith. I'm having trouble figuring the age of the unit. The serial number (112890) is saying it would be 1982. But it looks like a 510 which wasn't introduced until 1985 (555510). Can anyone verify either way?
