This bears repeating. Shopsmiths don't fall apart over time. Bearings and belts may need replacing, rust may take hold, but some of the oldest Shopsmith machines made are still in use.

I believe the serial number you gave as 112890 is actually a date code. As an actual serial number 112890 would have been made in January 1982 but would include the prefix SS before the numbers. That would be on a Belt Cover Vent Plate like the one below.

If that "serial number" is on a sticker as shown below it is a Date Code and is the date it was made.
