Re: Misaligned Rail Assy Holes

Can someone else confirm that SS has changed their charge card policy? For as long as I can remember SS does not charge your card until the item has shipped.

I made two orders in the last couple of months and both orders were charged to my CC immediately. And the order(s) shipped and arrived ...

Re: Changing a 5/8 inch saw arbor

Thanks guys. The video explained it very well. I'll just stick with my 5/8" arbor from the "old days" that, I guess, is actually a Daddo / Molder design (the one that runs into the table saw brace if you're not careful ;-) I'm sure the 1-1/4 arbor blades that Shopsmith sells are excellent blades ...

Re: Changing a 5/8 inch saw arbor

Considering this topic. Does anyone know why Shopsmith chose 1-1/4" as an arbor size? Was it a marketing scheme to lock-in customers to their blades or are the blades superior in some way to 5/8" arbor blades? I have the 1-1/4" blade / arbor that came with the SS when I purchased it in the early 80 ...

Re: Shaper Fence Manual Needed

Hi Russ,

Thanks for the detailed information. I have the fence style shown in the 1981 shaper fence instruction PDF you provided (for my Mark V 500).

I've just never used the shaper, but now that I've opened the box for the kit, I can certainly use the finger board -- that's assuming it hasn't ...

Re: Shaper Fence Manual Needed

I have a model 555140 Router / Shaper Guard Retrofit kit which looks like the image you provided. I have scanned and attached page 3 of the little one sheet instructions. Interestingly, I bought it ~40 years ago and never used it. In fact, I just opened the box to get the instruction sheet out of it ...

Re: Extension table Stuck!

I asked Google and here's the AI Overview explanation why the hole expands instead of contracts:

Yes, a hole in a piece of metal will get bigger when heated.
When metal is heated, it expands in all directions, including the space within a hole. This is because the atoms in the metal gain kinetic ...

Re: Mark 7 by 220v

Why not just get an appropriate length extension cord that is used for higher current window AC units? I know that most high current 120-volt devices say to not use an extension cord, but the issue usually (besides wire gauge being too small) is the fact that you have added one additional plug ...

Re: Motor stalls occasionally

I'm kind of surprised that this isn't more of a common problem. It does require some effort to remove the motor to clean it, but I guess every year or so shouldn't be a big deal.

Motor stalls occasionally

On my Mark V 500, the motor will occasionally "stall" when trying to start--maybe a dozen times in the ~45 years I've owned it.

This happens when I've got the headstock in the vertical, drill press configuration. When the power switch is turned on the motor just hums and won't turn. Using the ...
