I think your way of coating the outside with Urethane leaving the inside un coated is the best way to go.
This wood (Juniperus virginiana) is not that deep red cedar its lot lighter an was kiln dryed to 8% mc...after planning it down it dose not seen to have that oily feeling to it. I'll do ...

I got some Cedar from work Eastern Red-cedar. (Juniperus virginiana) .
It sort of soft remind me of cypress or western red cedar. Anymore with finishing tip like to keep the smell maybe a oil finish of some sorts on the outside Tongue oil maybe

I like the tails long so they can be sand down ...it the thin tab at the bottom...I was thinking I started out a little on the outside of the saw or I need to make the board a little narrower. I thought I was just on the edge of the board when I started the cut....Thanks for the help Dusty

Here is my setup it works the joints come out good but leave a small tab at the end what am I doing wrong? Should I just trim it off all the way around the box? The top of the box comes out even within a 1/32 .......
