I replaced a wheel that was totally destroyed on a used Proplaner I just bought. Filed off the riveted end of the axle and used a wheel from an old set of casters (off something) that I have been storing for decades. The wheel was IDENTICAL. Used a 1/4-20 bolt, nut, and locktite as the axle. Should ...

My problem is that I've been keeping everything and find it hard to work with all the stored stuff takingup so much room. Just finished tearing down/cleaning/rebuilding my second Mark V, and need to clear enough room to use it! Four 3.75" faceplates are too much, as are nine sanding discs. I ju...

Which Faceplate is Best?

I have three types of 3 3/4" faceplates: aluminum, cast iron, and steel. All are Shopsmith. Which is the best, and why?

Same thing with sanding discs. I have both aluminum and steel for my Mark V500. Which discs should I keep and which can I get rid of.

I just got one of the old ShopSmith Bryce Overarm Router systems with a custom base and Milwaukee router as part of a package. Of course it was missing the pins. SS sells the replacement starter pin for $0.80, so I got one. Now to talk my friend with a Unimat into making the other three pins. Thanks...

Thanks for the info. I decided on the Emerson because: it is newer, it spins (by hand) more quietly, it has no capacitor (that I can see), and it was much cleaner (less sawdust) so should have heated less while running. Everything stripped from the headstock and cleaned up. Putting most of the runni...

Which motor is better?

I'm rebuilding a mid-70s headstock. It came with an AOSmith 1 1/8Hp motor. I have a mid-80s Emerson 1 1/8Hp motor from my recent PowerPro upgrade. Is the Emerson better than the AOSmith, or are they the same? Which should I use?

It's not a Safe-T-Planer. Probably sold by Magna or early Shopsmith. See pictures I added to initial post.

I use a plastic strip intended to join two sheets of thin wall covering (as might be used in a bathroom). It is about 1 1/2" wide and has a mushroom shaped ridge in the middle and costs a few dollars for an 8' piece. I cut a piece the length of the rip fence and put one flange under the fence. ...

Reversing PS for Sharpening

I wanted to use the chisel sharpening jig on the strip sander on my Power Station to sharpen/touch-up chisels while turning on the Mk5. But my PS turned the wrong way (Doesn't everyone's?). So I opened the PS motor connection plate, reversed the two leads that run into the motor (start windings via ...

Rotary Planer Head

Some time ago I was given a rusty 10/10ER with a box of parts/pieces. The 10ER is still rusty, but I've adapted some of the items to my 510. However, I don't know what to make of the "rotary planer head"(?). It has a two part aluminum body about three inches in diameter with three evil-loo...
