The video did it. I was putting the domed washer in the wrong place. Funny thing is that I watched that same episode last weekend trying to figure out my screw up, and completely missed the part about putting your hand inside to hold the washer in place while insert the transverse assembly.

Quill Lock
The quill feed was sort of stiff on my 500, so I decided to remove it and the pinion to clean them. (Found out later I didn't need to remove the pinion to clean it, but that's hindsight). Convert one bearing quill to two bearing quill
Is there any reason why you can't just press on a second bearing on a one bearing quill? Will it not accomodate a second bearing towards the back of the quill to stabilize it?
