Re: Lathe Center stuck on Morse Taper shaft
How is a bearing puller going to work? The silver part goes around the back of the part to be removed and the screw shaft in the middle goes on the point of the part to be removed. It's pulling on itself. That is like standing in a bucket and trying to lift the bucket by the handle. Am I missing som...

Re: 510 Routing/Shaping
All you need is a speed increaser. That doubles the speed of the headstock and allows the router or shaper bit to be under the table. New they are like $280.00 and can be found used for around $100.00 or less.

Actually that paint job looks like someone really took their time and did a nice job. I was expecting a rattle can job over everything.

Re: ShopSmith owner of 50 years with some comments . . . .
People had class back then. No matter what time of day you went to visit my Grandpa, he had a tie and a vest on even for breakfast on a weekend. Same with my father inlaw, he was always dressed. Heck, I don't even have a suit anymore. Kind of sad I think. I love these posts of the old parts and the ...

Re: Jointer
This may be a two fold problem. I just went out to check the runners and while the tables were apart I turned the depth knob. It is very stiff like the threads are dirty. Looks like I need to run a tap through the knob to chase the threads. We'll see if that helps

Re: Jointer
I just got a shopsmith jointer and need a bit of advice. If I tighten the main bolt under the tables even just past finger tight , the table locks up and I can't turn the depth of cut knob . If I loosen the nut just a bit, there is too much slack, but i can turn the depth knob. All 5 wafers are und...

Re: New as they come
Sweet! I was talking to a friend the other day about my new Shopsmith and he said his father had one years ago and that there was still some stuff left in his garage and that I could have anything I found. There was a few couplers, sanding discs, but the big find was a speed increaser and the shaper...

Re: New as they come
Welcome Hans. The Shopsmith is an amazing tool. There is a whole set of vintage videos on youtube that I'm sure you'll enjoy. They're from the earliest years of the Mark V and don't always adhere to modern safety best practices, but you can learn a lot from these videos. The tablesaw chapter is lin...
