Re: Shopsmith Steady Rest help/tips: Steady Rest suggestions?

Screw 6 definitely should tighten so as to secure the position along the slot as well as the vertical angle. If it does not, it may be striped or insufficiently tightened. Thank you! Turns out there was like a burr or something on the thread, I just ran a die over it and now it tightens. Duh! I sho...

Re: Shopsmith Steady Rest help/tips: Steady Rest suggestions?

I had removed the spindle and cleaned up, but here is the setup. I don't know if Screw 6 is the culprit--the manual twice mentions tightening it, but all it seems to be is a slider for the support. It doesn't lock the support at all. I find that I can snug it like this at first, but as soon as there...

Shopsmith Steady Rest help/tips: Steady Rest suggestions?

Hello, I am trying to turn round pommels on Indian clubs, and I am using the Shopsmith steady rest to reduce chatter, but I am not sure I am using it well. In the images it shows the rest at sort of an underneath angle, but when I try that it sort of slides through. So I am trying to adjust it so it...

Re: Mark VII Saw guard--missing part?

Thanks for the info! This was the only guard that came with Mark VII when I got it. I didn't realize the Mark Vone would fit. I got metal guards with some of my Mark Vs and larger Plastic ones (for the 12"--this just fits the 10" blade) with others I don't see a problem using it on the Mar...

Mark VII Saw guard--missing part?

Hello, The saw guard that came with my Mark VII looks very different from the others I have. It doesn't have a full front guard--just like weird side and lower guards. Is this normal or is it missing something? It honestly looks like this is how it was manufactured. I just made an unexpected score (...

Strip Sander for Stock Removal Direction?

Hello, Does it matter the direction you use on the strip sander for stock removal? The instructions for the chisel attachment specify the quill side. Does anyone find that is best also for stock removal, or does it matter? Sharpening? Stropping? [I just got a strip sander, and I am trying to underst...
