The problem was that the spindle knob was not seated against the bearing.

When you refer to 65 in your post....the spindle knob, is it pictured here (attached). I do not have an owners manual if that is a page within. If the spindle knob is what is pictured as you may be able to see the set screw appears to have been replaced by a molten metal plug.

This does not seem right. I got everything cleaned up (not shinny) and lubed, waxed, and put back together. Did not tinker with the quill, shaft, motor etc.

Ran a check by the book and plugged it in (no blade mounted).

Yep, first thing I had to fight free was the set screw. Fortunately no harm done. After about 3 hours of letting it soak in PJ I finally wised up and found a long thin bladed screw driver and my trusty rubber mallet. About 20 firm whacks later and the guide raised out of the channel. All cleaned up ...

I read the manual and did not see anything about the rail locking into the guide slot but, for the life of me I cannot get it to budge. I have sprayed it with PJ and tapped it (guide rail) with a rubber mallet.... Is there a lock somewhere that I missed or should I just be patient?

Man, was that ever seized on!. Had to keep using the wrench on the bolt until it was completely removed. Never would have come off with just the rust buster.

Starting a new thread for the next challenge. The miter guide rail.
