Jigsaw Housing Breather Hole

Has anyone considered drilling a small hole into the breather "channel" from the inside of the housing? This could circumvent the problem of blocking the end of the breather channel with a replacement housing cover gasket.

Re: Jigsaw 610 Restore Parts

I guess I never "closed the loop" on my story. The Permatex Black Ultra did a great job of sealing the housing cover. The oil escaped from the drive shaft seal because it was over 60 years old. I replaced it with a new seal (SKF Oil Seal P/N 4912 from Graingers, Item# 40J912), but getting ...

Re: Magna Jigsaw Question

So the oil seal by National Product posted above is no longer available from Baum Hydraulics, but there is another seal with the same dimensions by SKF Item# 4912 (http://www.skfextranet.com/catalogs/457010/sealdetail.asp?s=4912) and it's carried by Grainger under Item# 40J912. I ordered qty=2. The ...

Re: Magna Jigsaw Question

Good news, the Timken oil seals fit perfectly. The 2 oil seals were installed and no leaks. I wish I could say the same for my attempts at making housing gaskets. I will keep trying different gasket materials until I find one that does not leak. I will post my gasket making results when successful....

Re: Magna Jigsaw Question

I have a Magna Jigsaw Mod 610 Serial# 82237 Mfg about June 1958 and my parts diagram looks just like the one above posted by gloomis. I too am looking for a shaft seal (#74 P/N502264).

Re: Jigsaw 610 Restore Parts

I have an intact old gasket that I used for a pattern to cut a new gasket from the fiber gasket sheet that I bought at Advanced Auto. It also leaked. Now I have solved the crankcase cover problem by removing the gasket and using Permatex Black. No leak from the cover. NOW it leaks from the drive sha...

Re: Jigsaw 610 Restore Parts

Okay so it's official. I now have a means of duplicating the Jigsaw oil gasket, the air pump leather gasket, the table insert and the yoke. You could do a total restore from these parts. $matches[2] IMG_2327-R.png Spooner... I don't mean to be anxious, but my Magna Jigsaw is laying on my workbench ...

Re: Jigsaw 610 Restore Parts

Hey Spooner, I have a 1958 Magna Jigsaw in pretty good condition. The only problem seems to be the main gasket for the oil reservoir leaks. No other seal appears to have any problems. I'd prefer to replace the gasket rather than to use something like Permatex Ultra Black to seal the cover. Can you s...

Re: Quill is really sticky.

I got a response from SS Cust Svc and am working with them. I saw in another thread that Ohio has a shut-down order, so that might explain the slow response time. Right now, I'm happy that SS is going to try and assist.

Re: Quill is really sticky.

I'm very interested in how your problem is coming along. I just bought a "brand new" Mark 7. I is 2+ years old but never even plugged in. I have gone over the whole machine wiping down and waxing as the instructions say to and found the quill to have a bind in it midway. It is not the sets...
