I have 4 Mark VII's.

2 of them have issues in that they don't spin in reverse, they humm and then blow breaker.

I sprayed contact cleaner in the tiny gap between the metal arms of the buttons and the innards and sometimes the motor will turn backwards.

What is part number fir the new belt.

Grainger has dayton v belts all lengths including 31 in. The a, ax, and L5 series has a half inch top width and 5/16 bottom close to 3/8 inch I might have measured on the original belt. Not cogged. Around 10 bucks.

Apparently I bought a Mark V drive belt from bandsaw belt warehouse. Not very useful.

I bought a 31" Duralast belt from Autozone, 17305 and it fit great. Ribbed or cogged as they call it. A Gates belt is more money, but they didn't have.

I'll probably fire it up today.

Now onto a custom ...

I just realized that I have been discussing the "Drive" belt and not the Poly V belt.
In which case the drive belt I have that seems to work is a Shopsmith 5OT490. 31" outside measurement. 1/2 " outside width and 3/8" inner width. 3/16" thickness.


I suppose my other belt is a good poly V belt ...

Do you think my belt is wrong??? at 31""

Any luck finding a good belt for the Mark VII from Autozone??

thanks all for documenting all of this. this mech guys were great for some things. in fact they modeled the cam and follower in solidworks and created the gcode to make our of delrin or alum. but basic machining things like this have to be learned by an elect eng like me

you are correct, these guys werent familiar with the punch process to seat the bearing. they were thinking about shiming the bearing with a fine metal film and then pressing or using an expansion compound around the bearing and activating. one guy suggested heating the collar and then compressing ...
