Speed gage doesn't rotate when turning handle

I have one of those old Shopsmith's with a toggle switch on the side of the headstock, and below it is the handle that controls the motor speed. Around it is a rotating gage like disk that shows the speed it is supposed to be running. I can rotate the handle, but the gage does not rotate anymore. Is...

Re: Second ShopSmith, Needs Work

Let her design a piece of furniture and then make it the nicest piece of furniture she ever had. As you build it keep her involved and pretty soon the questions are more about the next project , how to build it and getting the materials for the project. Paul This one right here. "Let" her...

Re: telescoping coupler

Sorry but this seems silly to me. It takes about 2 seconds to loosen the motor and slide back and forth. I agree with this statement. The original design is too easy to operate and doesn't have the vibration problem showing on the U-Tube video that probably will wear out and break that wood/plastic...

16 tpi screw file! What is wrong with a triangular file(thread sides are 60°). Never heard of a screw file before now. What does it look like???? I have a set of two of them that I got out of my father's tool box when he died several years ago. He had showed me how to use them when I was a kid, and...

Re: Second ShopSmith, Needs Work

I don't have two ShopSmiths in my shop. My wife owns the other one and she has it set up with "her" lathe duplicator for the new railing spindles for the new upstairs railing she wanted. Although I seem to use "mine" much more often and sometimes I "borrow" hers too.

Re: Mark V headstock lock

This should get you started - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YJ88k2F54Y Mike Thank you very much Mike907. I got the headstock lock loose enough to get the headstock off of the support rails, and took the belt cover and motor off. Then I had easy access to the headstock lock. Easing the screw back...

Mark V headstock lock

My old Mark V headstock lock is malfunctioning. I can't lock it up tight anymore, and the handle is real hard to turn in either direction to try to lock it up or unlock it. I had it set up as a drill press, locking it pretty tight as it worked ok, then I layed it down to hook up the belt sander and ...

I could route a slot 1/4" deep and 3/4" wide and screw a 1/4" x 3/4" steel bar in place with some flathead wood screws.

Reinforcing Oak Door

The door was purchased new about 15 years ago to be placed into a brick wall leading out to a sun porch that hasn't been built yet. Four other doors were purchased from the same company and installed and finished. None of them have failed. This door and frame set was placed in a future living room u...
