You also need to screw the wedges all the way to the middle(my idea) before inserting it into the headstock(from the inside!). This allows you to synchronize the wedges for equal travel. You will need to manually hold them to prevent the wedges from turning until the wedges contact the way tubes. T...

well call me stupid but do both of the wedges start at same end of rod or do you remove the handle to thread the LH wedge onto the rod? Came assembled from SS with the handle on the rod but had a loose rolled pin floating around in bag. will be calling SS Tuesday to confirm because the rolled pin th...

removing rust on tubes

So from what i am seeing is that it is great for removiing light rust from way tubes etc:

I recently picked up a complete MK V 510 from a storage unit that has been stred for many years " date code 12-11-04 " with some rust on tubes.

FWIW, I like mine!:) I think I like the simplicity of the 'feed' mechanism(low failure rate!:D). I know I like the calibrated round knob! Another tool to learn but i,ll have fun making sawdust . Looks like the rubber is worn on the feed rollers but maybe shop Smith will have replacements or suggest...

old shop smith planer

Got an offer from a friend I couldnt refuse .

This old planer is pretty much hand operated except the power coupling to the Shop Smith Head.

You have to feed the boards by hand but hey, the price was right.
