I should have added that under FERS, federal employees receive matching funds for a certain portion of their salary that they put into their FERS retirement account (similar to a 401K). They are not required to put anything into a FERS retirement account.

I feel sorry for none of them.

I served 22 years in the military to earn a pension equal to 55% of my base pay at the time of discharge/retirement. That has been boosted a little by the COLAs but those are now few and far between.

However, it was more the medical coverage that I stayed in the service for. The hype then was that I and my family (spouse) would receive free medical care for the rest of our lives. That promise was never delivered upon and what is provided is diminishing more with each waking day.

I would trade with any of them even though I might have to pay back some because I began drawing my pension as soon as I retired (I wasn't 50 yet).

You mentioned nothing about their travel and cost of living accounts or of any special perks that are available to them that we are not wanted to know about.

Class distinction maybe.

Enough of that. I feel my blood pressure rising!

No Dusty, I was simply pointing out how their retirement is computed because it appears there are some misunderstandings on this issue. It's just like any other federal employee's, and that goes for their health benefits as well.

Personally, I'm for term limits and believe all of them need to go. It would be nice if all of them could be replaced with Obama in 2012.

I did not intend to argue your point at all. I was venting. There is very little that rattles my cage more than does Congressional performance or lack there of. These childish battles between parties and all of the bickering about who did what when makes me sick.

Bush did it.

I don't know if this means anything of interest or not but I was sure surprised when this popped up while I was surfing.

Then while continuing to surf I found another.

What ever it means, someone is pushing hard to get this Sawstop thing locked into place. I can't imagine just how much it costs to lobby in Congress for something like this BUT I will bet that it is not cheap. Who is going to buy for this in the end? Maybe it is someone who is just dedicated to making all of our shops safer places in which to work.

If you'd said "regrettable" rather than "surpris[ing]" I'd agree. I can't stand the fact that this is the way that businesses manipulate our government. But at this stage, it sure ain't surprising anymore.
