Weight of the DIY upgrade ?

Post by camerio »

For those of you who did the DIY upgrade to the powerpro, do you remember the size and weight of the parcel you received from Shopsmith ?

I think it was about 70 lbs, and the size of a small hammock. FexEx delivered it to my door and the only really heavy part is the DVR motor.

Yes, some 70 pounds sounds about right. Mine was in a box probably around 15" x 15" x 18". Can't remember exactly 'cause I reused the box to sell off my Emerson motor.

I bought the entire factory assembled headstock and the box was marked 81 Pounds. Take off about 10 pounds for the raw casting and roughly 70 or so pounds for a DIY kit.

I just measured the box that my DIY Power Pro came in. It is 15 1/2" x 15 1/2" x 16"h.

When delivered the box weighed about 70 lbs. The FEDEX driver is a little whisp of a gal who insisted that she carry the box. I didn't let her carry it very far.

My Power Pro motor weighed 17 lbs more than the A/C motor that it replaced. If you are also planning to do the double tilt upgrade, the quick disconnect lift assist is an accessory well worth considering.

When I was at the demo at Lowes the other day it was really neat using the assist lift since I have never seen it work. Only two fingers and up it came. At 45 degrees it went the rest of the way by itself. He showed me the quick disconnect for the double tilt and was very easy to take off and back one. I cannot afford the PowerPro right now but the assist lift and double tilt upgrade are on my radar real soon.
