I've tried to get a clear answer through official channels and still have the question. I have gotten responses but they all read like a foreign language (legalese).

If it was intelligible, we would probably not like what it says.

I would continue to respect my own judgement regarding things made for progeny and not worry about big brother. As you have already stated you are very sensitive to creating harm.

Probably need to be even more reserved with 'donated' items though.

Then one has to determine if a "gift" is a "donation," because you are a "manufacturer" if you make something and then donate it, according to the CPSC.

Yes, I know. From the Latin words manu factus - made by hand.

It is just real hard for me to accept that I, in my simple wood shop, can violate federal law by building a doll cradle out of small pieces of wood and a little bit of glue.

Sshhh don't tell anyone but I have three federal law breaking jobs in progress right now. When done they will look something like tiny suit cases full of doll cloths.

The other criminal in this house does the soft, cute stuff.
