In search of a good light for lathe

I am trying to find a light like the on on my Powermatic band saw.

It takes standard type bulbs. Something with either a magnetic or clamp on base would be great.

I recently found one at Kroger for $5 that has a crappy clamp, but a good goose neck with a 3/8" pipe threaded nipple and metal shield. Pitched the crappy clamp and used a metal L bracket to mount it.

Goose neck had a flexible plastic covering that was there I am sure to impress the distaff clientele, but inside is a real honest to goodness metal gooseneck.

It also has a line cord switch.

They come in different colors!!!!:D

So you may find one in an unexpected place(furniture department?;)).

You could go with the Shopsmith’s slip-on Utility Light I like it because no matter how long it is on, it is still cool to touch,

A visit to the HD Bar B Q area sometimes will yield some rather good LED lamps which can be moved about easily due to the magnets on the base. The disadvantage is that they use batteries which have to be replaced. I use one on my scroll saw and lathes (not SS)

I use a Delta gooseneck lamp with a magnetic base... works great and easy to move around.

I made it by my local Woodcraft today and dropped $120.00 on two lights. The magnetic base is a nice heavy unit and the magnifying light was on sale. Now I can see!:)

The Shopsmith lamp is good. I like the little brackets that can be attached to things a magnet won't stick to like aluminum or MDF etc...
The Delta lamp shown here takes a full size bulb and can be had at Lowe's (Tool department) for around $20 to $25 each.

I also like the shopsmith lamp. In fact I have adapted two of them to sit on the top of two (separate) floor lamp stands. Mine may not be beautiful but are great for use with many different tools, especially the lathe. I can twist that goose neck to shine light exactly where I want a flood of light. Fjimp
