Just Purchased

Good morning. I just purchased a 1984 Mark V. Very excited. I am not even sure what all I have yet, but I do know I need some advice. The unit was left on a sunporch and was not waxed up or covered. There is surface rust on the bandsaw table, and other areas. The headstock seems to be fine, I need to do some cleaning to know more. What I would like help with, is how do I get this thing in tip-top working order? What maintenance should I prioritize? Where do I go for this information? This was a great deal at $100.00, and I want to bring it back to its former glory.

I've bought 2 mark 5s in the last year and 9 model 10s.
It's addicting. But good clean fun.
A MAP? of my location......??
Yikes, that's a scary concept. I read Orwells stuff too much I guess.
I better go find my tinfoil hat..............

So, my next question is this. I did not know about turning the speed control without the motor turning. Oh crap is what I thought when I read I should never do this. What do I do now? I turned it just a little....

Who's John?:D

If you did not FORCE it towards 'slow', probably no harm done. If you only turned it a little towards 'fast', probably no harm done.

Mount something to act as a hand turn wheel(sanding disc, face plate) and rotate it a few turns. That should put the sheaves/belt back in 'normal' positions.

Fear Not! You put yerself on that map! If you are paranoid(comes from living too close to 'Area 51') be a bit inaccurate!:rolleyes:
