Late Duplicator Usefulness

Anyone have a lathe duplicator care to comment on how useful it is. I've watched saw dust session videos but other than that I have not been able to locate discussions about what people are actually using the duplicator for.

I got mine used I am currently using it to make the Shopsmith Chess Set. It is really the first thing that I have made with it that I actually needed it for. It would be great for chairs maybe pens. I have one and have used a few times. I like the results but like everything you need to practice ii is not fool proof. The templates have to be precise and you want to make sure not to put to much pressure on the template or project piece. I made a set of goblets the first time and they did not come out the same dimensions due pressue on the template. Also make sure to make the final passes cutting just a small amount at a time I have found this helps with the pressure and makes for a smoother finish less sanding required. Over all I like it alot. I need to get a steady rest for it though

Mine isn't the usual ShopSmith stock duplicator, but I have used it to make identical legs for furniture pieces (eg. my avatar). There are lots of places where you need identical pieces. Legs, drawer pulls, bun style feet, columns, chair or stair spindles come to mind.

I read "somewhere" about making a cutter-less lathe chisel (or cutting the end off of an old one) and bolting a cutter from a set of 3 cutters for a molding head on the end of it (much like some of the carbide tipped chisels now available) to be able to turn repetitive profiles. Each set of cutters gave them a chisel and 2 replacements. They formed the mounting point so that just like on the molding head there was more than just the bolt holding the cutter in place.
Made sense to me.
