Replacing Inner Spindle Bearing

Very true, I have 4 different double bearing quill versions made by Shopsmith, 3 of them used different size bearings (32mm, 35mm, 40mm) either for the front or back bearing. All of these quills have a bent front shaft which is why I still have them.

If there are 4 double bearing quill versions, how many single bearing versions?

The whole big thing with the single bearing quill vs the two bearing quill is the failure to compare apples to apples...
I've seen it dozens of times here. Someone decides that their old quill bearing is too loose and needs replacing. That may be true in some cases and in others it may not true. If it is noisy or noticeably wobbly (or if bits of it fall out on the floor ) replace it, they are cheap. If your SS is working fine but you just want to install a new 2 bearing quill "just because" that is fine too. My bit of a gripe is when someone removes an badly worn single bearing quill and installs a nice new 2 bearing quill and then proclaims that the 2 bearing quill is unbelievably better than a single bearing quill... If you want to compare a single bearing quill to a 2 bearing quill at least compare a "new" single bearing quill to that "new" 2 bearing quill. Do not make a determination based on comparing a "worn" single bearing quill to a "new 2 bearing quill... It's just bad science...
Is a worn 2 bearing quill better than a "new" single bearing quill? I think not.
If you want a 2 bearing quill go for it, just don't get the notion that you can't cut a board without one.
If your quill is loose and you don't want to spend a bunch of money just stick in a new single bearing and move on completely quilt free. It will work nicely.
I have several of both and quite frankly in day to day use I can't tell the difference.

On the other hand... If you spend a lot of hours turning umbrella stands out of tree stumps, maybe a 2 bearing quill is a good idea...

Ignoring the Model 10E/ER!

Two significant ones. The Gilmer version and the M5/VII/V.

The splines are different on the Gilmer version and no coupler(just a dust shield).

Other than finish (black oxide vs plain), I do not know of any differences between later single bearing quills.

Good to know, especially the "no differences" part for later quills.
