These first two are my redneck "Big Gulp" dust shroud for the SCMS. A Dollar store storage tub, a toilet flange and some scrap wood.

This is my re-purposed treadmill. A BIG sander. Takes a 105X15 belt.

Nice sander, Gene! Have you thought about mounting a variable-height roller above it? Could be a great thickness sander! Makes me a little more willing to pick up a used treadmill. Hmmmm, I wonder where I can hide that?:D

I have, Derek!
I'm pondering how to do it so it's accurate and easily adjustable. I also need to make up a stop that I can move along the length and remove when using it as a thickness sander. The stop is easy. The roller apparatus...not so much.
Treadmills aren't all that easy to hide.

How about using a second treadmill mounted above the treadmill you currently have but turned 180 deg. so that it runs in the opposite direction. Just a thought and it would probably require some serious welding to make it work but used treadmills are pretty easy to find cheaply on CL.

I'm thinking using a big piece of UHMW under the belt as it is inherently slippery, and many holes for heat dissipation. I'll give the roller idea some thought. I have a line on a treadmill locally (Vancouver, B.C.), so we'll see. Like you said, these are hard to hide!
I am starting to make instruments, and something like this would be ideal to thickness sand wood for acoustic instruments. Cool idea!

Within a week of your wife mentioning a desire to get fit, loving husband (you) presents her with a treadmill. Once 3 months pass without her using it, ask if you can have it for the shop.derekdarling wrote:Nice sander, Gene! Have you thought about mounting a variable-height roller above it? Brilliant! Points for thinking of her, and extra points for putting the thing to actual use. I think it'd go better with flowers, things generally do!jm51 wrote:Within a week of your wife mentioning a desire to get fit, loving husband (you) presents her with a treadmill.
