Miter Bar Washer Issue

So let me recap.

By buying a new miter bar to replace the one which had the broken screw holding the washer, I now have to repair the broken miter bar, which will require me to buy a tap and die set ('cause I don't have one).

But, before I do that, I need to buy a belt sander (which I don't have) so I can grind down the larger screw that I will use to fix the old miter bar after I have tapped it for the larger screw.

On the plus side, by buying the belt sander, I will have a place to park the old miter bar, but it will be more convenient if I first remove the screw and washer that I reattached when I fixed it. Also, I will need to buy another miter gauge head.

That's looking like one expensive miter bar! And that's not including the cost of the divorce lawyer, the psychiatrist and the semi-private room at the funny farm.

but a 10-32 tap (you dont need a die) should cost around $4... and a $.20 screw. Which can be legitamately shortened with a dremel... or if you wanna go the slow route...a file.


both of which I am almost positive you have.

Id still fix it...if for no other reason than a backup

I have had great luck getting a new part or tool and later fixing or re-purposing the old item and announcing the win win to the boss. She seems to thrive on that thinking.

We have been working with a neighbor to get some wind damage repaired. This afternoon the fellow who was hired to replace the front door along with the frame and reinstall a heavy steel storm door came to our door announcing all was complete except that he needed to get different latch for the storm door as the current knobs and locks were hitting one another. I walked over to check on the problem. I ask him if he would mind switching the positions of the latch set and the deadbolt. After a rather strange look he complied and within five minutes announced, "You da Man," I really didn't want to come back to replace the hardware. I walked home thinking to myself, now I know why that door always blew in the wind.
