Designing a better Power Coupler...?

When I broke the last Power coupler I had a few years ago, I quickly made a short jack shaft platform that set on the way tubes and used belts to drive several different SPTs until I could get another Power Coupler. This also allowed me to adjust/change the min/max SPT speed by using different size pulleys. The jack shaft was about the same length as the Power Coupler. I used link belts for the jack shaft pulleys and adjusted the SPTs to provide the proper belt tension on the SPT side.
I have LoveJoy couplers available if I find myself without a Power Coupler. The 2 hubs and spider are cheaper than the Power Coupler. The LoveJoy couplers are shorter in length and I have used them up to 10,000 RPM without any major problems. I use them on my MINI Shopsmith in place of the longer Power Coupler. They need the same alignment procedure as the Power Coupler.

Remember the jointer runs at 3450, not 1000 like the bandsaw, not sure what speed the planner runs at.oscarthefuzz wrote:Although they technically spin they don't really spin in terms of something with bearings. What is the Lovejoy coupler number. Lots of options for 5/8-5/8 shafts

You can buy a headstock 5/8" hub, an inset spider and a 1/2" and a 5/8" hub for the various SPTs. You can get the 1/2" & 5/8" hubs in either L075 & L090 model sizes. I use all the same model hubs and insert spider. There is a set screw in each hub that fastens the hub. The key way can be ignored. I am a little confused about this coupling method.
