Quill Feedstop Assembly

Post by bdeweese »

I still have my recently acquired 500 in pieces, but am getting ready to do some reassembly. In reviewing the quill feedstop assembly, I notice that there are 2 recessed areas in the axle to accommodate snap rings - one on each end of the axle. The one on the feedstop side of the axle is still in place. The one on the other end is missing. It seems to me that I took this snap ring out when I disassembled the unit. However, I do not have an extra snap ring lying around, nor do I see the 2nd snap ring referenced in ShopSmith's exploded view of the assembly.

Should there be one on both ends of the assembly, and in fact I've misplaced one? Or is one not used for some reason?

Thanks! Bob

Maybe this will help. FWIW earlier versions did not include the flat washer between the snap ring and the first serrated washer.

Thanks. That helps! Doesn't appear that there is a snap ring used on the other end. Next time I'll post my question first - before I crawl around on my garage floor trying to find the missing "phantom" snap ring ... :).
