Cannot remove set screw from drill chuchp

I now have new circuit for shopsmith I got last month. I started cleaning it up, but have run into first snag when I tried to remove the drill chuck from quill shaft. The unit had seen limited use for the last several years as a drill press. Anyway, the set screw is frozen to the chuck. I put liquid wrench on it yesterday, but still no luck.

The machine is in pretty clean condition generally.

In addition to the heating/cooling and soaking, you can also try an Allen wrench socket on a ratchet or a breaker bar instead of a T or L handle Allen wrench. Those set screws can be a lot tighter than you might think. I'm still surprised that I haven't bent/twisted my red handled Allen wrench yet.

Thanks for ideas. I cannot see set screw well enough
To assess it. I had pretty good surfaces with second Allen wrench, but i slip with it very easily now. Am going to get hex drive to put on break over bar. What kind oh heat are we talking? Hair drier, lighter, torch?

Whatever you do, make certain that you have the allen wrench inserted deeep into the socket. What you do not want to do is spill the allen wrench in the socket. After doing that a time or two, you'll be drilling the allen screw out and buying a new chuck.

While trying to remove the set screw, occasionally tighten it and then loosen it (work it back and forth).

Between new surfaces of the hex bit socket and breakover bar leverage, I got it out. I expect I need a new set screw, as this one is pretty in marginal shape now.

Make sure any new set screw has a flat point!:)

Good "point" Red!
Since there are actually 4 different style set screws, it would be easy to make a mess of the shaft.
NEVER rely on some one at a hardware store to know the difference. That's just downright dangerous these days.
