[quote="dusty"]If you live and spend by this guideline, you may never spend on pleasure for you know not what tomorrow brings.

Two weeks ago I was just cruising along]

You should be in the government. They buy the "spend today let tomorrow take care of itself" philosophy. Of course the country is now 14 trillion in debt and going deeper but what the heck.

I didn't say quit spending on pleasure. I said make sure you aren't spending what you may need to use tomorrow for food.

"If, of thy mortal goods, thou art bereft,
And from thy slender store two loaves
alone to thee are left,
Sell one & from the dole,
Buy Hyacinths to feed the soul"
- Muslihuddin Sadi,
13th Century Persian Poet

Or shop stuff... :)

Dusty and Ed, You guys have articulated the financial battle that we all face on some level or another. ( At least I do) There is wisdom in Ed's position, I have spent money on something " fun" and then needed it for something critical. The solution was not pleasant, I had to borrow $$ to pay the bill. Dusty has a point as well, I lost my first wife to cancer at age 32. we spent some money we didn't have to do some things that we though were important. Borrowed that Money as well, and it was one of the best things I ever did.

Those two events have formed much of the rest of my financial life. I will do just about anything to keep from borrowing money, and I have taught the kids to do so as well. But, I will save my " allowance" for months to get something that I want for my shop. I never ran a business, but I have three in the family who do. I am always amazed at the difference that I see in the way they react to price changes and the way customers do. There is non, they often react the same way, for opposite reasons. They both hate it! I hope SS can stay in business, because I like the stuff and I want to support them. If I can afford it i will, if not I will have to do something else.
