Hey guys, here's a short vid showing my working air compressor after replacing the gasket. I can't seem to find much info on these old beasts, so I figured that you all would appreciate seeing one in action!

That was excellent - I love to see old Shopsmith gear rescued and working. Nice job! My compressor of the same era gets pretty darn hot. Your advice to lube is good - where did you lube? Also, did you get the pressure gauge at HF? That's a nice addition. Alec

When I had the gasket out I just oiled the heck out of all the moving parts below the mushroom, and of course the bearings that are on the shaft that go to the power coupler attachment. The pressure gauge is just a $5 HF gauge. I bought their air compressor "starter kit" for all the attachments and hose. Works great, with no leaks!
Looks great! Now if you can just covert your Guitar to a air, you can put a new meaning to playing the air guitar:D

What you need to improve your performance is an auxiliary air tank and a pressure relief valve.

Nice to see it working, the replacement diaphram, and the operation. Looks like you could operate as a lphv (low pressure, high volume) version.
Nice endorsement of the Magna documentation, customer service sent me a copy a couple of years ago. The repair kit listed in the documentation is not available. Appreciate if you would mention more about the cloth covered neoprene.

Air delivery is aproximate 2 1/2 CFM so they are useless for the newer HVLP spray guns. Fun to use on occasion.
Also, I have two different manuals but oddly they list different operating speeds. The early book states 1750 rpm maximum for the 10er and Mk5. 1590 rpm if on the SPT power stand.
The later book states for the Sawsmith set the speed dial at 24 or 2400 rpm. For the old Mk7 at 1200 rpm. The other notation is about not running too slow as it may ruin the drive shaft coupler and thats why the compressor has a built-in flywheel. Using the pulley to drive it is prefered.
