The other day I was in Sears and I thought of you and your hunt for a sander.

Sears has about 10 different hand sanders from 1/4 sheet to variable speed obital. But one thing I noticed on all is the placement of the motor vents. In every case if I grabbed the machine in a way most logical to me I was covering a huge portion of the vents.

To me that says two things will happen any heat since heat rises will come up against my hands and cooling air intended to cool the motor will be blocked by my hand. I would not buy any sander I saw at Sears yesterday.

I want all vents open and clear of my hands when I hold the machine in the most comfortable position for me. As I said I have a PC 333 sander that is built in such a way that when I hold it my hands are well clear of any vent.

I want to thank all of you who made recommendations or gave warnings about Random Orbital Sanders. I had never used one and really did not know what to expect or look for.

The inputs were so diversified. I ended up looking at Lowe's, HD and Ace Hardware and finally buying one at HD. Prices and selection were p[retty much the same every where.

I probably could have gotten a better price by buying online but I don't like to do that unless I know what it is that I am buying.

I ended up with a DeWalt D26253K 5" Variable Speed with Hook and Loop Pad. The three packages of sanding disks that I bought cost me more than the sander but it works great.

The table top that originated this issue has been sanded and is ready for the paint and stain crew to show up this week end. My daughter is refinishing and reupholstering a dining room table and six chairs. Somehow I got the task of preparing the wood parts.
