That really eliminates that option then. :(
I'm not sure what you mean about hitting the way tubes?

Fred

PS: The 500 fence (which is also easily adapted to the 510 table) is not very expensive on Ebay.

Problem

Post by mountain4don »

I went to User CP at the top of the page to edit my profile, and when that appeared I selected "Edit Profile" and went down to "Additional Information" and tried putting in my list of woodworking equipment, location, and interests and pushed "Save Changes" at the bottom of the screen. And it jumps to another screen labeled "vBulletin Message" and says: A required field called Areas of Woodworking Interest is missing or has an invalid value. And that ends my attempts to update my profile. The statement doesn't mean anything to me so I just don't bother to attempt an update again. This happened when I first signed onto this website too and it didn't seem to effect my use of the site so I figured it wasn't important.

Yup, that is the way it works. I just edited by profile and left that area blank. This resulted in the same error you described. That is truly a "required field". You must enter something.

I then went back and edited the profile with exactly the same information EXCEPT with something in that field. It worked.

Consider:

1) The Mark VII and Mark V(505---520) only allows mounting the fence at the hole location in the table.

2) The Mark 5 and Mark V 500 allows limited adjustment of the fence positioning.

3) All versions also have a cut depth adjustment(input/output feed fence offset). but the later versions include a knob for fine tuning both fences.

4) The fences are intended to be mounted such that the quill axis is behind the fence and only the outer reach of the shaper cutter is exposed.

Unless you are using very large diameter shaper cutters, the way tubes should not interfere with the table edge.

BTW one END of the fence clamps to the front edge of the table, and the other END of the fence clamps to the rear edge. Thus feed is front to rear with the edge being shaped against the fence.

Try putting something in the top box called "Areas of Woodworking Interest". If ya want info to show up below your post. Edit the signature option.

But I don't have any "Areas of Woodworking Interest". I just spend 10 hours a day in the woodshop building things my wife is interested in! And people keep giving me all of these Shopsmiths and tools because they died? What I am really interested in is fishing. And hunting a little on a nice cool morning. Drinking coffee and eating donuts. :D :p

I've seen previous threads on this forum become protracted with confusion over orientation. Because the machine is multi-function you can end up standing at various locations depending on the task in hand. Correct me if I'm wrong JPG, but I recollect you advocating standardising on one reference viewpoint and relating all location descriptions to that.

AIUI the front of the machine is when standing in the table saw operating position with speed control dial visible; left is where the SPTs attach, right is the lathe end.

I'm thinking mountain4don is standing at the operating position of the SS in drill press mode & maybe picturing the fence mounted front to rear in that position, ie, at 90 degrees to the front & rear of the table fence mounting referenced by JPG. That would explain the idea of long stock colliding with the way tubes.

The good news for mountain4don is that no stock will hit the way tubes :)
