double sled runners for a crosscut sled

The dadoes determine the final location of the blade in the sled.

Since the blade will be 3.5"(-1/128") from the right dado on the sled, the location of the left(first) dado from the left edge of the setup piece needs to be 3.5" closer to the edge than the desired distance from the left edge of the sled to the blade.

This has been corrected. When initially posted, it contained an error.

Since I'm trying to keep this generic we will put the left edge of the blade on the center line of the jig. Various settings and equipment shouldn't really come into play to use this method.

I will assume you know how to set up to do a rip cut and know how to locate the left edge of the blade. You now set up just as you would to cut a 12" (half the 24" width of the jig) rip cut. You are not going to cut anything but you now have located the fence 12" from the left edge of the blade.

Now when you make the spacing jig the runners will be adjusted to make the 12" off set to the center of the base of the sled.

BUT, with the blade and fence set the way they now are, if you cut the first dado for a runner and then use jig to relocate the second dado - the resulting sled will be offset 3 1/2".

You are quite correct. I'll fix it when I can, for now I removed the information so as to not confuse anyone.

When making the setup jig first dado, move the fence 3 1/2" further away from the '12"' setting.
