Another newbie!

Post by let_er_buck »

My name is Aaron I am from Pendleton Oregon. I inherited a Shopsmith Mark 5 serial number 335997. It was my great Grandpas, I am not sure what year it was made and if everything is there. I am pretty sure I am missing the lathe center?? I just want to learn how to turn some wood and see where it takes me.... Any information on books, manuals or anything else that is needed to get started would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!

Geographically that puts us almost neighbors (Meridian). Good luck with your inheritance, you'll enjoy it! This is the right place for quetsions.

Did you get 3 million with that?

Welcome!

You are not the first person that mentioned getting their Great Grandpa machine, that is special. Thanks for sharing that with us. For a lot of us this is our hope for the future of our shopsmith(s).

I was wondering if you could help me? I need a centr for the power head is this what I am looking for:Lathe Drive Center grips your turnings securely --
Four-spur Center “drives” your workpiece during lathe operations. Just use a mallet to drive the spurs into the centerpoint of your stock and attach it to the MARK V spindle with a single setscrew. Standard with MARK V

Hi;
I don't know exactly what you are asking, but if you want to mount and turn a piece of stock you will need a lathe drive center.
I believe that "A" in the pic is what you need

Welcome Aaron! I'm just west of you in Portland. I inherited my Shopsmith from my grandfather as well, only mine is the older 10er. They are fun machines to keep running!
