Safety Key

Anybody got an 'extra' safety key (505107)?

I realize I may be able to get one from Dayton, but Shipping charges will be exorbitant.

Need it for a power station switch(missing on arrival).

Also not sure they currently have any.

Would it be easier to get a new switch from an electrical supplier? I believe that they are the same physical size.

Well, I thought I had a spare key that I was going to send you but I don't. In fact, I broke the key that was in my Power Station. I was checking to make sure that the "spare" was the type used in the Power Station. It is not. When I attempted to reinstall the safety key, I broke it.

Fortunately, the Power Station switch works without the key. Maybe the piece that broke off inside the switch is making that possible. I don't know how the safety feature works.

I started to check out that theory and then decided to leave well enough alone.

Yes, it appears to be the same switch as that used on the headstock but those cost about twenty smackers. You gotta really need or want a safety switch for that price.

I have one of the newer switches from Shopsmith but when I attempted to remove that key it was hard to pull. I decided to leave it alone too.

There is nothing 'broken' off inside on mine.

The two prongs on the removable key engage the actual switch actuator that is 'under' the outer red movable part. The outer part is free to move without the key, but that does not move the actuator.

Anything that 'connects' the outer part with the actuator would work.

I do not know about the "C" headstock switch, but the one on my DC is different. The 'prongs' are different.

Let's give this another chance. I have a couple safety keys. They are not all the same. What does the receptacle where the safety key inserts look like. A single "H" shaped hole or two small rectangular holes.

I find that my machines actually utilize three different safety keys.

Two of them would be difficult to cheat. The one with the two rectangular holes (the one I broke) appears to be easy to overcome.

Let me know. I may have a key.

PS: I just read your last post. Sorry again.

From your last post: "Anything that 'connects' the outer part with the actuator would work". The piece that moves the actuator is simple. If pictures and or dimensions would help you to cheat the switch, let me know. I can take measurements off the broken actuator. BTW, apparently only one of the two pieces that insert into the switch contact the actuator. My switch works with the broken actuator in my hand.

Getting a 'removable key safety switch' rated for 1 1/2 hp(20A@>=125V) with 3/16" faston(blade) terminals and DPST that fits in that square hole would be a real crap shoot.

If anyone knows of a 'source' they would be doing all of us a service to reveal that.

The key (that is broken) for my planer fits the stand mount scroll saw I have as well. Is there a different one then?
1 need to break down on the next order and get 2. Aren't they about $5 each?

I have decided to be smarter about ordering form SS BECAUSE of the shipping. Wouldn't it be nice if we could order and pay for items as they go on sale each week or a need comes up, then call and have them release the shipment in at one time. Shipping once, as long as you don't need something asap.

This key is from my 'other' power station. It fits. I am guessing it is like the one you broke(hope I did not cause that!!!!).

You did not cause that! It has been flakey for months. Today when I removed it, I broke it. Actually, it might have been broken before, even when I was using it.

Since you have a key that fits, you have the dimensions of what you have to insert to toggle the switch.

Check this. It looks like a switch that would work though it is different. Could not find a detailed description.

SPST, 1/4" terminals, rating unknown. I am sure it would fit the hole, but, the wiring and connectors would need to be 'modified'.

I have about decided to make up an 'order' list and call CS. I do not know what I will do with this 'second' power station, but I would like to get it back to 'normal'.

Let me guess - you will attempt to repair the broken one!
