I recently purchased a sharpening guide, I am having problems sharpening my deep fluted gouge, Not sure if I am following the instructions correctly. I am using the original gouges that came with the shopsmith. Any suggestions?

Nope. I sharpen by hand. Power sharpening just screws up the edges faster for me.

FYI,
I've done standard "Spindle" gouges just fine with the Shopsmith jig and disk-sander.
However, if you are working on a "Bowl" gouge with a fingernail grind, I recommend looking at this excellent thread:
