It looks like they would be difficult to install. A square area would have to be routed for the body and a hole augered out for the tapered post. 2 screws hold it to the table.dusty wrote:Really convenient to have but rather difficult to install if your work bench was not made for them.
Wouldn't pegs that fit in holes work better?... Like on the Festool Multifunction Table

These things are old, maybe mid 1970's or so. That was how it was in the old days of woodworking, you didn't have a Festool table to just pull out and use....pieceseeker wrote:It looks like they would be difficult to install. A brace and bit and a chisel would be my choice of tools to install that thingey!;)
P.S. Add a hammer to that tool list.

So how is it not so? Elucidate me.

Drill the hole. Mark out the square outline. Chisel out the outer shape to thickness(different at each end) of the thingey . Chisel out the hinge and detent pin relief. Mount with screws after verifying chiseling depth/fit.
One thing puzzles me - why the taper?

I don't have one (yet, but it looks like it would be a great addition to my workbench), but I think that the tapered part would have rock in the hole as it was raised or lowered, as the pivot is at the top of the tapered part.
On the list for my next trip to Lee Valley.
