Is there any lasting way to align the spindle and tail stop. The eccentric collar seem to move. Please advise.

Inspect the eccentric by removing the set screw and removing the eccentric from the tailstock. If there is a groove worn into the eccentric from the set screw, file the burrs down and the groove can be filled in with some JB weld and filed smooth. If the tailstock has only one set screw the tailstock can be drilled out on the opposite side of the existing screw and tapped for a second screw.

Another approach.

First fill the dimple.

The steel sheet metal 'ring' can be up to 18 ga(this one is thinner).
There is room for a strip 3/8"+ that will lay in the screw landing zone.
This will work on all Mark 5/V tailstocks known to me.

I was doing some end-grain boring on a lathe piece last night. A tip I found for myself probably sounds very elementary, but it helped me. I realized that when I concentrated on rotating my eccentric for left/right alignment, I wasn't always keeping it "flush" against the tailstock. So I was subjecting myself to a "Morse-taper tilt" variable along with the left/right and up/down variables. No wonder I often encountered a wobbling drill-bit during the boring-drill sessions.
So... when I kept everything flush and tight during my alignment steps, things got better. I did a perfect 4+ inch bore in end-grain on a very hard workpiece. I'll report out on that project later
