Her it is with one coat

And do I finish the insides? I used excess in rags to on them, but do not know what is norm. Kind of wish I had not split the top drawer into 2 parts, makes it hard to reach bottom.

Pretty wood...who wood have thought Hackberry could do that?
I use BLO quite often. I pour some in a small plastic contrainer I keep for that and apply it with a old "T" shirt or soft brush if I'm trying to get into corners etc. I let the wood tell me how much it needs. I work in a good light so I can see if the BLO is immediatly absorbed or if some stays on the surface. Surface stuff I wipe off with a clean rag immediatly. I add a couple more applications, right then and there, if it's being absorbed. A few hours later I check the piece to see if any is bleeding out, I wipe any excess off. If I find bleed-back I keep checking until I don't see any. Once I don't see any on the surface I wait a minimum of a week before applying any other surface coating. If I put on something else I generally seal the surface with a 'spit' coat of shellac.
I'd be careful about finishing the insides of the drawers with BLO, unless you plan to seal it. It can evaporate from the surface for quite a while and the oder could attach to objects kept inside????
I always try to practice on a piece of scrap from the project, sanded the same as the project itself to see how different finishes look.
This is a great project and looks wonderful. I'm sure it will lead to more anniversaries. I was thinking for the eyes - what about about another wood or what about knots that could be glued into place?
If the inside of the drawers aren't smooth enough for you what about a felt liner or that felt spray material. I used that a couple times. Easy as can be.
