Some motors allow for the possibility to rewire and reverse direction. I Know member Bill Mayo has done just about everything to a Mark V and may have a motor that you can drop in. Of course, with directions you can also attempt to see if your motor can be reversed.

Here are a couple of threads.

The GE and AO Smith motors can be 'easily' reversed. The two links above show detail on how to do it.

The Emerson motor's start winding wires are buried and hidden. There is a thread where someone had a motor shop rewire it, so it's possible, but the community has not yet found out how.

I have an Emerson motor in my 500 that is going on the chopping block soon. I'll write a guide for that if I'm ever successful.

thanks for that info, picking up a bandsaw and biscuit router SPT today along with a pile of cast off parts from a 520 rebuild so I might end up with a SS 507.5

Well, that could be me...do I look like I have been bitten by "the bug"? I nice fellow in Kingwood hooked me up with a very new bandsaw and biscuit jointer along with misc. 500 parts that he had left over when he dropped his greenie off of the back of a truck.

so far i am very impressed with the build of these tools and am already pretty sick of reading about how these tools are a jack of all trades and master of none. If setup and maintained by an experienced woodworker then i dont see any reason why top quality work cant be put out and dont see the need for many stand alone tools for what I am using it for.

well i got what lived other than the headstock which he kept. The tables and tubes where trashed and about every cast part was cracked. Very little survived, I could believe a fall like that did so much damage to something built like a tank. He picked up a silly good deal on a 520 soon after.
Two each Shopsmith Model 500, 505, 510s. Sawsmith Model 500003. Most of the SPT goodies aside from the compressor and the Planer.

I agree completely apex. I have found the the people who complain about a shopsmith always heard it was bad from their cousin's sister's friend's mother's grandma's daughter-in-law who has dementia or some other garbage. It's never from someone who actually owned one.
