Cabinet Maker's Workbench
Recently moved my father's workbench from storage to a workspace in my garage. Dad was a professional cabinet maker who's hobby was woodcarving. Since this thread relates to workbenches I have taken the liberty to post a few pictures.

The bench top is 72" X 29". There are two vises. The back of the bench has a series of flip-up compartments for chisels, carving tools, screw drivers, etc. These compartments are easily removed from the bench simply by lifting them off the pegs upon which they rotate.

The planes are all older Stanley's.

There are nine drawers. Six are in the front, three left and three right. A seventh drawer is at the far right side. I move the 3300 to get access. Finally there are two larger drawers in the center cabinet with tool storage below.[ATTACH]22243[/ATTACH]

Yes, he designed and built it when he was in retirement. He was a graduate of the Rhode School of Design and had several patents. It is in two parts, the work bench top and the base cabinet. The top is keyed to the base with four pegs. All of the drawers are of hand made dovetail construction. He only had one mechanical device - a pedal powered scroll/jig saw. He admired my ShopSmith and thought I had made a good decision considering I was in the Air Force and moved often. In contrast, every cabinet he made was handcrafted. He knew no other way.

He did not. I am sure he would have been pleased if you copied his design. I will take a photo of one of the compartments in the next day or so to illustrate the simplicity of how they work.

Super nice bench and I'm so glad to see it in a shop ready to do work.
The flip tops are really clever. Any chance of close up photos of those?
Lately, too many interior designers are snagging these and turning them into kitchen islands or some other decoration.

The work bench require a high quality wood for containing number of tools and wood on it. These wood can be obtained from dark brown surface of trees.
