your dad's bench is very nicely organized Dick! I will eventually be building a furnituremakers type bench myself, those vices are perfect for lutherie. I may sink a granite surface block into one end and will definately put some thought into honoring your fathers design as well. The flip of compartmanets would be idea for all the specialized handtools that I use.
Two each Shopsmith Model 500, 505, 510s. Sawsmith Model 500003. Most of the SPT goodies aside from the compressor and the Planer.
The construction is as simple as it can get. This first photo shows a peg installed on one side of the tool holder position, there is another directly opposite.terrydowning wrote:The flip tops are really clever. Any chance of close up photos of those?

The tool holders have a slot cut into each tail. Slip the slot onto the peg and let the holder drop to the slot top. The holder can be removed simply by standing it vertical, lifting and sliding it off of the peg.

Curved slots were cut with a coping saw I presume.
I did not expect the curve. My thoughts were straight slot. This just keeps getting better!
