Auxiliary drill press table for the SS??

Well Peter, Rockler no longer carries that table. Bummer! It would have saved some time to just buy it. But, in making one, I could incorporate other goodies, like a sacrificial insert.

Just how short is your "shorty"? I can't think of any piece I'd need to drill that wouldn't fit in either the DP, or Horizontal boring mode. Might have to lower the table and get on my knees, though.

I took 14" off of the tubes, Gene but your comment about getting on your knees reminded me of another small change I made that effects drill capacity.

I installed stop blocks to establish a comfortable height for the table when in drill press mode. You can see them in this thread if interested.

By the way,if you install one of those ring lights, make sure vibration does not cause it to fall onto the rotating chuck, wrapping the cord up and flinging the off/on switch into orbit. DAMHIKT! I fixed it by making a jam fit donut (the red ring) on the quill with three radial holes matching the screws from the ring light and replaced the switch.

Those thumb screws will NOT grip the ShopSmith quill firmly enough if you get some vibration!

I have been thinking about this since first reading this thread.

Just how much more useful is a larger drill press table?

It seems that most of my table (can be see in this thread) is useless space.

I drill bit comes down in the same location every time. I can move the table in and out some - but why? What does that feature do for me.
