Evaporust question

Post by jayp413 »

I was wondering if evaporust is ok to use on nylon locknuts. I was disassembling a big tube tunnel slide to clean and would like to derust the 100 or so screws, washers and nuts. Thanks for any input!

I've never evaporusted nylon, but I'm 99% sure it would be fine. Evaporust is amazing gently stuff, it doesn't even harm paint. And nylon has good resistance to most chemicals. But to be safe, you can simply test it on one and see what happens.

I've never used Evaporust. Where do you buy it? I have a sump pump that needs a cleaning.

None of my local hardware store had any, however an oreilly auto parts store had it, so that is where i bought mine. If you have one nearby you might call them.

Nylon resin is pretty much resistant to everything at room temperature. There are a few compounds that will dissolve it with heat, but most of those would show up on an MSDS sheet and Evaporust has nothing to report there. The only other concern is long-term exposure to strong acids or bases, but one again I think Evaporust is fairly close to pH neutral as its not classified as a skin or eye irritant.

But to CYA, don't leave it in a closed up, hot shed for a week and you should be fine on the nylon.

evaporust is available at Harbor Freight or some Lowe's stores at least in the Kansas City area.

Lowes recently closed out evaporust at all stores near me.

In addition to HF, autozone. HF is cheaper and has those 20% off coupons.

Many Farm and Ranch supply stores carry it. Bought mine at 'Tractor Supply'. Do not know if they have any of those in North Dakota though.
