SS Mark V starts and spins a little then stops

So I took two more pics this morning after reading what you said. So the close up pic, it is sticking out too far correct? that screw is not supposed to be bent like that correct? Is that the screw that need the bigger washer?

Wow, what caused all this?

It appears you have the newer eccentric.

The control sheave may be crudded up on the idler shaft.

DO tear it all the way down!!!!! There may be more 'surprises'.

With the idler sheave that far 'back', the control sheave will be WAAAY too far 'open' and the motor belt will definitely drop too far. Subsequent movement of the control sheave towards slow(closing the gap) is VEEERY likely to create a jammed motor belt.

That thing must have run fast enough for takeoff!:D

So do I need to try to get the speed dial to "fast" in order to take everything apart? Or can I start pulling belts off etc? Does anyone know of a video on you tube etc that would show how to do everything you are suggesting? I saw the Sawdust session regarding replacing the two belts and I was planning on doing that, but I just don't know what else I need to replace or do. I apologize for my lack of knowledge, I just picked up the SS on Saturday and now I feel like I am neck deep in all this. I appreciate all your help

Yes I did I appreciate it, and it is helpful, I was just hoping for something a little more like the Sawdust Session that goes painfully step by step through every little detail in a video. The SS is not mine it is my Father in Law's so I really don't want to screw anything up worse than it already is.

I could probably take everything apart from your pictures, but then I don't really know what I am looking for bad or good. I do appreciate your help, I just want to gather as much knowledge on this before I proceed so I don't screw up.

IMHO YOU are doing HIM a great service by 'fixing' it. Sadly I do not think he has any idea of these problems, nor how he caused them!

I don't think he had any idea of the issues either, he usually takes pretty good care of his tools unfortunately he is more of a car guy than a woodworker so this got some neglect. I'm hoping that by fixing it up and taking good care of it, maybe he will put it in the will:D

It seems to me that maybe a "not so subtle" hint that it would serve everyone better at your house might be in order.

I would love to keep it at my house, but it takes up my cars spot in the garage. It will probably stay there for awhile, but eventually I get very tired of scraping ice and snow off my car in the mornings.

The FedEx truck is supposed to deliver the Poly V and the Drive belt today, so I am going to get started tonight. Wish me luck and standby for more questions. Thanks for all your help up to this point. I am hoping to get this done and get on with my projects.
