Broken main table trundle assembly - how to fix?

Just purchased a box of 520 parts on eBay (i.e. table, carriage, ext tables, etc) with the intent to upgrade my 510 to 520 status and then use my 510 parts to upgrade my son-in-law's 500 to a 510. Well, good intentions aside, the box arrived today and due to a very poor packing job by the seller, one of the two legs on the main table is broken off (up where the leg attaches to what SS calls the Table Bar & Tube (PN 514344)). Darn and double darn.

The price for a new part is north of $155 which is a definite ouch'y. I am tracking 510 tables on the Bay but I wondered if I could maybe have the broken casting (is it aluminum??) welded? Or maybe someone out there might have one of these lying around just looking for a good home.

Suspect answer is No to welding but thought I would give the forum a try. Desperate times and all.

Ask for a refund, you did not receive what you paid for. PayPal and EBay will be behind you on this one.

Actually the deal is pretty good even with the busted table so I don't want to just dump everything. Perhaps I can get some adjustment on price - maybe not. We'll have to see. I will still get my 520 upgrade. My SIL's 510 upgrade is delayed a bit. Which is a disappointment.

I would either ask the seller to refund what a replacement (used) would cost or he can provide you a replacement (he might have another if he parts out for a living). As posted above, you would easily get a refund of the replacement cost through PayPal and eBay if you so choose.

Don't discard the tubes. You'll find that they come in quite handy.

Welding or brazing will not work well in this high stress area. The heating will weaken the area around the fix. Plus, it is very hard to get the fix to look pretty and function smoothly. I have an extra 510/520 trunnion available along with a real cruddy 510/520 main table without rails. If interested, contact me. Thanks.

I agree with Bill welding or brazing will not work in this high stress area.
Get the part from Bill and be glad he had one available.

Thanks to all who have replied - great having support. Really not a big deal in any real sense but certainly a disappointment.

The seller has an excellent rating on eBay and she has already responded and we will continue talking. She is talking UPS insurance but, unfortunately, I don't think UPS will do diddly here (the box was big, weighed almost 65 lbs and was single layer card board - definitely NOT a good thing. Plus the parts were just put in the box with only a few pieces of what looked like 1/2" thick foam for buffering. No, no, no).

I have sent Bill Mayo off an email and looking forward to hearing from him. Plus I am tracking tables on eBay. Whew. Now I need to email my son-in-law and tell him the conversion plans for his 500 are a bit on hold. Spread the pain unfortunately.

Exactly - even if you don't want to return the items, push the seller to reimburse you for the broken part...presumably they don't happen to have a replacement part to offer, so tell them you want a partial refund and if you don't get satisfactory results, open a claim with the E-Bay Resolution Center - they will have your back and that's what they are there for. There's no excuse for sloppy packaging and just because you got a good deal on the items is no excuse for them to be lame and lazy in their shipping and you have to deal with a broken part. Also, do all the other potential future customers a favor and be honest in your feedback when you eventually post it for this purchase. The utility of E-Bay's feedback rating system has been greatly diminished by people's seeming unwillingness to post anything but positive feedback when a transaction has been anything but. It's very rare that I've had such situations on E-Bay but on the few times I have, I've called the seller out on it. They shouldn't offer something for sale that's big, bulky and/or heavy if they're not prepared to properly package and ship the items.
