In my case, the bit was Amana.

Wow have you contacted Amana? I would think they would want to see that.
I have heard of many types of failure from router bits but never a heat failure from Amana or that quality of a bit.

I wouldn't feel right, Ed. I bought it a few years ago in a box of several bits at an estate sale. Many, like this one, were unused. Besides, it's gone with the trash.
