I've recently replaced the motor in my shopsmith. It was clear that the bearings were going bad.
I feel bad just tossing the motor out. Are there companies or individuals out there that would like the carcass for a rebuild or something?
Picture of the label is attached.

I would say yes if you are mechanically inclined. Plus JPG and I are both motor fanatics

Bearing replacing is not a complicated task if one has the proper tools. It does require a complete disassemby of the motor.
Joshh is currently rebuilding some motors and modifying them for dual voltage and reverse run. The Emerson motor however cannot be modified for either.
I do not know if either of us is 'excited', but interested fer sure. Either one of us could 'salvage' the 'carcass' assuming the windings are ok.
Do you have a need for it? Which ever is closest could fix the bearings for you.

Yes, it requires disassembly. That is no big deal. Disconnect the wires, remove four screws and pull it apart.JPG40504 wrote:Bearing replacing is not a complicated task if one has the proper tools. It does require a complete disassemby of the motor.

Mark the end caps (I use a chisel) where they meet the motor housing to help with physical alignment during reassembly.
The rest is easy.
It is best to have a bearing puller and bearing press available but is not always necessary.
A good motor shop will rebuild that Emerson motor for about $100 if the windings are good.
If the windings are shorted, the motor isn't good for much other than parts to repair another Emerson.
