Table Slipping

Table Slipping
When I use the drill press feature and if the drilling offers much resistance the table slides on the way tubes. Anyone else ever have that problem and how do you stop this? I have 510 upgrades to 520 and power pro.
This is something that has been discussed quite a (drill) bit.
To minimize slippage use sharp bits and don't force the quill.
Also check and adjust the carriage lock.
Assuming you are still getting slippage, with a 520 you can feed the table extension tubes though the front and rear rails and add telescopic legs to help support the table.
Or a 2 x 4 cut to length.

Maybe worn wedge locks, wouldn't hurt to check'em out.

Table slipping
I use a machinist screw jack under the table, it's fully adjustable, and there's NO slip.

I had the same problem. Adjusted my table/way tube lock wedge assembly and no slippage now. Also, +1 on sharp bits and not cranking too hard on the quill. I also recently added the table lift. Seems to me that will help as well since for the 520 it requires 24 lbs of downward force to move the table down while in drill press mode. I also have the upgraded 520/PowerProwilsond wrote:When I use the drill press feature and if the drilling offers much resistance the table slides on the way tubes. Bad news alert!wilsond wrote:Duh, wrong locks. I stand corrected. Still will try some fixes.
One of the wedges may be stripped and not 'clamping'.
If so, replace them both.
Or, the shaft threads may be stripped.
Or, both.
IIWM, I would pull the shaft and wedges and examine the parts closely, in hand.

I think you will find it only needs a small tweak of the adjusting nut to fix your problem.
Take the tension off the lever and then tighten the nut on the other end. It will only take a small amount of a turn in most cases to fix it. Just make sure the lever can still be locked and that it doesn't require a gorilla to lock it. It might take several try's to get it just right but when you do the carriage should lock in place with no more slipping.
The nut is back inside so a socket will be required to reach it.
