Newbee Questions for table saw and lubrication

Thanks. The lathe attachments were a gold color too, so I guess the gentleman that had this before pieced it together. The guy had the 3300 vacuum and the biscuit jointer attachment in the group too.

I removed the belt cover finally to start lubing the old greenie system I bought. I couldn't find any oil holes in the outer sheave. I'm going to tackle the insides later on. I am nervous about taking the belts off, etc.

Understandable, but not a big deal once you have done it. A big screwdriver will be a valuable helper.

Strong fingers help also!

I finally got the inside sheave lubed up and the other inner parts. The inner sheave had a oil hole while the outer did not. Is this common for the older SSs?

Also, thanks to Bill Mayo for helping me get jigsaw parts.

It is 'normal' for the older Greenies to not have oil holes in either place.

Did you look under the end of the spring next to the floating sheave hub?

Man, you scored. You got the bandsaw and jigsaw, and the little strip sander, and your table saw has the hold-down clamp. That is great! Mine only had the jointer as an extra, and no hold-down clamp. Yours looks to be in great condition! Did you get a good deal? I hope someday to find the fold-down clamp and a bandsaw attachment for a reasonable price.

I think I got a good deal... I got the system and the following for $500 on craigslist:
mitre gauge with safety grip
universal hold down
original chuck
Bandsaw (dated 1994) with fence and extra blades (rusty)
Strip sander (missing 1/2 inch platen)
Original Magna 610 jig saw (needed a split tube and new trunnion)
Original Magna jointer with auxiliary fence (fence was missing hardware)
Biscuit joiner
Drum sander package with vacuum accessory
Router/shaper fence with circular shield
Two sanding discs
large lathe plate and tool rest
molding head with 3 sets of blades
used dado and 3 saw blades with arbors
mortise hold down
dust collector with attachments (needed new hood and hose)

I'll say. I don't really know much about these, but mine hails from 1956 and has a Magna-Jointer, lathe tailstock, table saw without the hold-down clamp, large sanding disc, original lathe tools hardly used, auxiliary table, Jacobs chuck, and a wiring syetem in need of replacement. I suppose the 200 I paid was about right. I hope, once I get the thing useable and get accustomed to it, to pick up the jigsaw and bandsaw. I have always wanted a bandsaw, and having such limited garage space, it seems the Shopsmith might be a good solution. I need to buy more lathe stuff before I get anything. The large plate and four bladed headstock attachment are first on the list.

I did order a DVD set online, and I'm told it will walk me through whatever I need to know to get it back in shape and keep it there. A guy named Jacob Anderson made them, and it was about $30 on eBay. Recommended by someone on this site. I felt I need this, because I tend to get in a hurry, and I am fond of saying that if it is possible to mess something up, I will find a way to do just that.
