10E Speed Changer Crank vs. Headstock Lock

Make sure you also have a washer between the speed changer and the headstock. I think the main purpose of this washer is to provide support behind the nut so the main bracket of the speed changer isn't broken in half (as evidenced by a recent eBay auction that was linked to elsewhere on the forum). But, it may also provide an extra little bit of clearance.

On the subject of belts, do you prefer the standard belts or the cogged version? The belts provided with the speed changer are in fair shape and don't need replacement, but I might as well go ahead and do it while it's still pulled apart.
Cogged. They're more flexible and allow for a tighter radius. But, I don't think they make the original lengths anymore. Or else they're just incredibly hard to find. The workaround is to get one belt slightly longer and the other belt slightly shorter. I don't remember the lengths off hand. I highly recommend skip at MCKtools as the source for new belts. http://mkctools.com/10erparts.htm

The cogged belts are a definite improvement. They are more flexible(important with small diameter pulleys). The speed changer pulleys are very small!;)
IIUC, the belt length difference is 3"
Notes(penciled in by a PO) on my 'documentation' states 22 1/2 and 25 1/2.
Assuming adjustment range of the motor mount and speed changer arm, either 22,25 or 23,26 belts MAY work.
I decided upon 22,25 for mine.

Moving the screw to the other side of the ears has solved the issue. I picked up a threaded stud and a couple of jamb nuts today at the hardware store, so now I'm just waiting on the belts. In the meantime I'm going to try to add a proper strain relief and revamp the ground wire connections on the motor and headstock. After that, I'll be back to turning!
