Michael

I started turning about 3 years ago and was told that "Turning Wood" with Richard Raffan was a good recommended read. He is a well known wood turner and this particular book was first published in 1985 and I felt it covered everything related to wood turning. I checked half.com and noticed that there are some available in the $8-9 range. I am sure there are other good books out there as well. Hope this helps.

Go to these following websites and you will find that they offer woodturning books and videos/DVD's on just about every subject of woodturning.

http://www.packardwoodworks.com
http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com

Lots of choose from. I will like to suggest you purchase a book for beginners (if you are one). The catalogs have descriptions about what each book is for and whether it is for beginners, intermediate, etc. Some of them are all around woodturning books and others are for a specific type of woodturning.

Jimmy Clewes and Richard Raffan are both authors I will highly recommend. I have taken classes from both of them and they know their stuff.

Good luck and have fun woodturning.
